‘Community Life’ Conference Recap
We had an amazing day celebrating and learning more about the importance and value of living together in intentional Community.
Dave Mitchell: Dave Mitchell shared his experience of living in Community for over 25 years, offering valuable insights and practical wisdom. His journey inspired many and highlighted the enduring benefits of communal living.
Special Guest - Abbott Christopher Jamison: We were privileged to hear from Abbott Christopher Jamison, who taught us the value of community and how we can grow together. Christopher is a Benedictine monk who currently serves as Abbot President of the English Benedictine Congregation overseeing 16 monasteries around the world. He is known for his TV appearances (BBC TWO’s The Monastery and The Big Silence) and was for many years a contributor to Pause for Thought on BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans Breakfast Show. He is a member of the board of CTVC, a company specialising in religious and ethical media production. Drawing from his life in monastic communities, he emphasised the importance of listening and supporting one another.
In the afternoon, attendees were able to take part in some insightful breakout sessions.
Managing Mental Health with Andy Pearson: Andy Pearson, a counselor specialising in Walk and Talk therapy, led a session on managing mental health. Using the TEAM-CBT approach, Andy shared his extensive experience, including teaching at international conferences in Poland, Mexico, and Bristol.
Living in Recovery with Clare Fleming: Clare Fleming, a retired doctor and photographer, shared her journey shaped by faith and guided by God’s Word and Spirit. With 12 years of experience in homelessness and addiction work, Clare emphasised the importance of healthy relationships, story-sharing, creative arts, and meaningful activities in healing.
Creativity in Community with Hannah Atkins Letty: Hannah Atkins Letty, a passionate musician dedicated to social justice and the creative arts, led a session on integrating creativity into community life. She shared her experiences of welcoming refugees and those struggling with mental health into her life and home.
Lectio Divina with Abbott Christopher Jamison: Abbott Christopher Jamison returned for a session on Lectio Divina, a traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation, and prayer. He also discussed his books, including Finding Sanctuary, Finding Happiness, and Finding the Language of Grace
